Troubles continue for Hardik Pandya and the Mumbai Indians as they faced penalties after a breach of the IPL code of conduct following their defeat against Lucknow Super Giants.
Hardik Pandya, along with all members of the playing XI, received fines for maintaining a slow over rate during Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2024. It was the team’s second offence of the season, resulting in Hardik Pandya being fined INR 24 lakh, while each playing team member received an INR 6 lakh penalty.
The IPL statement read, “Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 30, 2024.”
Adding to Mumbai Indians’ woes, they faced another disappointing performance, scoring 144/7 after being asked to bat by KL Rahul. Both Hardik Pandya and Indian captain Rohit Sharma failed to make significant contributions, with Pandya departing for a first-ball duck.
MI’s season has been tumultuous, marked by off-field controversies and on-field challenges. Hardik Pandya’s struggle with form, managing only six wickets in 10 appearances with a soaring economy rate, exacerbates their situation. Additionally, he is yet to score a half-century this season.
With MI’s playoff chances dwindling, they currently sit at the ninth spot in the table with six points, effectively out of contention. Their remaining matches against top competitors further dim their prospects for a top-4 finish.
