In the heated aftermath of the Asia Cup final, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav displayed remarkable composure and wit when a Pakistani journalist tried to provoke him regarding India’s conduct during the tournament. The controversy unfolded after ACC chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi walked off with the Asia Cup trophy and medals, following India’s refusal to accept the awards from him, amid heightened political tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.
Suryakumar Yadav Responds With Calm and Wit
During a press interaction, a Pakistani reporter questioned Yadav about India’s behaviour towards the Pakistan team, noting that the Indian players had refused handshakes, skipped the customary photo session with the trophy, and conducted a political press conference. The journalist suggested that Yadav was the first captain in cricket history to bring politics into the sport.
Yadav, maintaining his composure, responded humorously, “Gussa ho rahe ho aap! Sawal pata he nahi chala aapka. Aapne chaar questions puch liye.” Translating to, “You are getting angry. I didn’t get what the question was. You asked four questions,” his reply immediately defused the attempt to provoke him, showcasing both patience and a sharp sense of humor.
Blasting PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi
The tournament’s post-match controversies reached a peak when Mohsin Naqvi stormed out of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium after India refused to share the presentation stage with him. He also carried away the trophy and medals intended for the Indian cricket team, an act that left the Indian players and fans stunned.
Speaking to the media, Yadav expressed his dismay at the unprecedented situation. “I think this is one thing which I have never seen since I started playing and following cricket—that a champion team is denied a trophy. I mean that too a hard-earned one. It’s not like it happened easily. It was a hard-earned tournament win,” he said. Reflecting on the team’s journey, Yadav added, “We were here since September 4, we played a game today. Two back-to-back good games in two days. I feel we deserved it. And I can’t say anything more. I think I have summed it up really well.”
The incident highlighted the extraordinary composure of the Indian team in managing high-pressure scenarios, refusing to allow external provocations to affect their celebrations or demean their achievements. Yadav’s wit and professionalism in responding to the journalist further reinforced the image of India’s cricketing leadership as calm, strategic, and focused, even in the face of politically charged controversies.
