At the gracious invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic (Greece), Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is slated to embark on a momentous state visit to India from February 21 to 22, 2024. Accompanied by a delegation comprising senior officials and prominent business leaders, the Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis will embark on a significant diplomatic mission aimed at bolstering the ties between Greece and India.
The highlight of Prime Minister Mitsotakis’s itinerary will be his participation as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the 9th Raisina Dialogue, 2024, set to be held in the vibrant city of New Delhi. This prestigious platform will provide an invaluable opportunity for both leaders to engage in substantive discussions on pressing global issues and strategic cooperation.
Elaborating on the details of the visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said, the visit will commence with a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan, where Prime Minister Mitsotakis will be accorded the traditional honors befitting a visiting dignitary. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Mitsotakis will engage in bilateral discussions, underscoring the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation across various sectors.
In a gesture of warm hospitality, Prime Minister Modi will also host a lunch banquet in honor of his esteemed counterpart, further cementing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Greece.
Further, during the first official state visit, Prime Minister Mitsotakis will also grace the bustling city of Mumbai with his presence, signifying the breadth and depth of bilateral relations between Greece and India.
It is pertinent to note that, the state visit holds profound significance as it marks a pivotal moment in the bilateral relations between India and Greece. In August 2023, during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Greece, the relationship between the two nations was elevated to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’ Grounded in shared cultural values and a mutual commitment to fostering economic growth, the partnership between India and Greece encompasses collaboration in crucial areas such as security, defense, shipping, and maritime affairs.
Notably, this visit will be the first bilateral Head of State/Government level interaction between Greece and India in 15 years, underscoring the importance both nations place on strengthening ties at the highest levels of leadership. The last Prime Ministerial visit from Greece to India occurred in 2008, making Prime Minister Mitsotakis’s visit a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
