The Indian Army successfully repulsed a major attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district early this morning. According to initial reports, a soldier was injured in the pre-dawn assault on an army camp. Security forces have since launched a comprehensive search operation to locate and neutralize the terrorists involved, as stated by a defense spokesperson.
This incident comes amidst a surge of terror attacks in the Jammu region, raising significant security concerns. The attack occurred less than 24 hours after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Jammu to discuss strategies to address the recent increase in terrorist activities in an area that had been free from such incidents for several years.
Sources indicate that a heavily armed group of terrorists attacked an army camp and the residence of Shaurya Chakra Awardee Parshotam Kumar in Gunda village. Parshotam Kumar, a village defense guard, played a crucial role in neutralizing two terrorists in the same area in August last year and was recently awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his bravery by President Droupadi Murmu.
Despite a heavy retaliation by the army that forced the attackers to flee, this attack marks another bold strike against the army in the region. On Friday, a temporary army camp set up in a school in Doda district was attacked with heavy gunfire and grenades. In the same area, four soldiers, including a captain, were killed last week, just days after five soldiers were killed in an ambush in Kathua.
The army has already deployed additional troops, including special forces commandos, in the Jammu region to combat the highly trained terrorists who have been carrying out frequent attacks on the army. In the past 32 months, 48 army soldiers have been killed in terrorist attacks in Jammu, with terrorists often escaping without casualties.
Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the cabinet committee on security to address the rise in terrorist attacks in Jammu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously instructed the army to deploy the full spectrum of its anti-terrorist capabilities to eliminate the terrorist threat in the region.
Despite extensive cordon and search operations by security forces in various areas of Jammu, the attacks have continued, underscoring the challenges faced in maintaining security in the region.
