French President Emmanuel Macron introduced a new government on Monday after the collapse of the previous Cabinet, which faced criticism from both left-wing and far-right factions in Parliament. The restructured administration reflects a center-right orientation, similar to its predecessor, which lasted less than three months. François Bayrou, the newly appointed Prime Minister, has formed the country’s fourth government under President Emmanuel Macron’s leadership, with the full list of ministers revealed during the announcement.
The new Cabinet consists of 35 members, featuring prominent appointments to critical roles. Élisabeth Borne has been named Minister of State and Minister of National Education, Higher Education, and Research, while Manuel Valls assumes the role of Minister of State and Minister for Overseas Territories. Gérald Darmanin has been appointed Minister of State, Keeper of the Seals, and Minister of Justice, with Bruno Retailleau serving as Minister of State and Minister of the Interior.
Key portfolios include Catherine Vaytrin as Minister of Labour, Health, Solidarity, and Families, and Éric Lombard as Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. Sébastien Lecornu takes the position of Minister of the Armed Forces, and Rachida Dati will oversee the Ministry of Culture. François Rebsamen has been assigned the Ministry of Regional Planning and Decentralization, while Jean-Noël Barrot has taken on the role of Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Agnès Pannier-Runacher will handle Ecological Transition, Biodiversity, Forests, the Sea, and Fisheries, with Annie Genevard as Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty. Laurent Marcangeli will lead the Ministry of Public Action, Civil Service, and Simplification, and Marie Barsacq will manage Sports, Youth, and Community Life. Other significant roles include Patrick Mignola as Minister Delegate for Parliamentary Relations, Aurore Bergé as Minister Delegate for Equality and Anti-Discrimination, and Marc Ferracci overseeing Industry and Energy.
Several specialized portfolios have also been created, including Clara Chappaz as Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology, Véronique Louwagie for Trade and Small Enterprises, and Nathalie Delattre for Tourism. Philippe Tabarot has been appointed Minister responsible for Transport, with Françoise Gatel overseeing Rural Affairs. Laurent Saint-Martin will manage Foreign Trade and French Nationals Abroad, while Thani Mohamed Soilihi will oversee Francophonie and International Partnerships.
President Emmanuel Macron has scheduled a Council of Ministers meeting with the newly appointed government on January 3, marking the beginning of what he hopes will be a stable and effective term in office.
