Day 9 of the French Open promises high-quality action as several prominent tennis stars take to the clay courts. The 4th-round matches will see athletes striving to secure their spots in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic returns to the court following his five-set thriller against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Alexander Zverev will also compete for a place in the last eight.
In the women’s singles, Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka will be featured on Court Philippe-Chatrier as the first and second matches, respectively.
In the men’s doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden are set to face N. Sriram Balaji and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela Martinez in a round of 16 clash. N. Sriram Balaji is considered a strong candidate to partner with Rohan Bopanna for the Paris Olympics doubles team. Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, the second seeds, overcame Brazilians Orlando Luz and Marcelo Zormann 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in a challenging opening round at the French Open.
Meanwhile, N. Sriram Balaji, alongside his Mexican partner Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela Martinez, has reached his first pre-quarterfinals after defeating their French opponents 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Aryna Sabalenka has been in excellent form, defeating her close friend Paula Badosa 7-5, 6-1 in the previous round. However, she faces a tough opponent in Emma Navarro. Emma Navarro, like Aryna Sabalenka, has not lost a set and won through two tie-breaks against Madison Keys in the third round.
Novak Djokovic will meet Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo for the first time on clay, setting the stage for an exciting encounter in Paris.
