Four individuals, including three Indian nationals, were apprehended by US Border Patrol agents in Upstate New York after attempting to illegally enter the United States by jumping off a moving freight train arriving from Canada.
On March 12, Border Patrol agents stationed in Buffalo observed the group jumping off a moving freight train on the International Railroad Bridge in the city. While attempting to flee, the men abandoned a woman who sustained an injury and was unable to move. The agents swiftly pursued and apprehended the men, while the injured woman received immediate medical attention from Erie County Sheriff’s deputies and US Customs and Border Protection officers (CBP). Subsequently, she was transported to a local medical center for further treatment.
Following the investigation, it was determined that all four individuals were undocumented non-citizens. The three men, identified as Indian nationals, and one man from the Dominican Republic, were arrested and are currently undergoing processing for removal. They are detained in the Batavia Federal Detention Facility, awaiting deportation hearings for charges under Sections 212 and 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Chief Patrol Agent Thomas G. Martin of the US Border Patrol Buffalo Sector commended the swift action of the agents and law enforcement partners, highlighting the collaborative effort to safeguard the Western New York area.
