Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy has alleged that around 40 phones, including his own and those belonging to his family members and supporters, are being tapped. He accused the government of spying on him and his family, amidst a backdrop of political turmoil and legal challenges involving his relatives.
HD Kumaraswamy’s nephew, Prajwal Revanna, a JD(S) MP, is currently facing legal issues, including allegations related to a case of explicit videos. Prajwal Revanna, who is abroad, is the subject of an arrest warrant and an Interpol notice.
In response, HD Kumaraswamy publicly urged his nephew to return to India and cooperate with the investigation, stating his grandfather’s political aspirations for him.
The allegations took a sharp political turn when HD Kumaraswamy accused Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Home Minister G. Parameshwara of orchestrating the dissemination of the explicit videos. He claimed that an audio clip revealed a conspiracy by political opponents to tarnish his family’s reputation.
However, both Shivakumar and Parameshwara refuted the accusations, dismissing them as attempts to gain publicity. They denied any involvement in phone tapping or the dissemination of explicit videos.
The situation underscores the deepening political tensions in Karnataka, with HD Kumaraswamy’s allegations adding fuel to an already heated political climate.
As the controversy unfolds, questions regarding surveillance practices and political motivations continue to dominate public discourse in the state.
