Harjeet Singh, a former close aide of self-styled godman Chhangur Baba, has claimed he is facing death threats and has been forced into hiding after testifying against Chhangur in an ongoing religious conversion racket case. Harjeet released a video revealing that he has received repeated threats warning him to retract his statement or face severe consequences, highlighting the deepening crisis surrounding the alleged conversion racket.
Alleged Attack and Threats Following Testimony
Harjeet Singh gave his statement to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on July 3 in Lucknow regarding the conversion case against Chhangur Baba, who was arrested on July 5 along with his associate Neetu alias Nasreen. Harjeet claimed in his video that threats against him intensified after his testimony, with repeated warnings that he would not survive under the current government if he did not withdraw his statement.
He described how he was targeted near Utraula crossing in Balrampur on July 7 while purchasing medicines. According to Harjeet, three individuals identified as Riaz, Nawab, and Kamaluddin attacked him, pressuring him to retract his statement. Following the incident, Harjeet filed a complaint, and the police registered a case against the accused and have initiated an investigation.
Allegations Against Chhangur Baba’s Network
Chhangur Baba is facing multiple allegations of orchestrating fabricated legal cases to silence critics, using false rape allegations to intimidate those who tried to expose his activities. Reports suggest that local law enforcement officials were allegedly bribed to remain silent, with the ATS reportedly having a list of officers suspected of being complicit in these activities.
Furthermore, Chhangur is accused of operating a network where young Muslim men posed as Hindus on social media to lure Hindu girls, a method linked to alleged “Love Jihad” activities. Badar Siddiqui from Meerut has been named as a key figure in the operation, accused of targeting several girls, with concerns that some victims have gone missing and may have been trafficked to Dubai and other countries in the Middle East.
A survivor named Sonu, who managed to escape from the network, has reportedly provided detailed testimony to authorities, revealing the operational methods and victimisation within the group.
The ATS arrested Chhangur Baba and his associate Neetu alias Nasreen on July 5 in Lucknow, accusing them of running a religious conversion racket. They have been remanded to ATS custody as investigations continue. In total, 10 individuals have been booked in connection with the case, including Chhangur’s son Mehboob and another individual named Naveen alias Jamaluddin, as authorities continue to uncover the extent of the network’s operations and its alleged targeting of vulnerable communities.
