"Five bodies recovered": Jharkhand Police after 6 students drown in Hazaribagh's Lotwa dam

Hazaribagh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 17 (ANI): Jharkhand Police on Tuesday confirmed to have recovered 5 bodies of six children who died due to drowning after they bunked school and went to take a bath in Lotwa dam of Hazaribagh.

As per Jharkhand Police, a total of seven 12th standard students of Mount Egmont School, Hazaribagh bunked school and went to Lotwa dam to take a bath, where six of them died due to drowning. Till now the bodies of five out of six children have been recovered.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajeev Kumar in a statement said, “Six children died due to drowning. A total of seven children had come here & one of them is safe. Five bodies have been recovered. We have also informed the NDRF team.”

On the horrendous incident, Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta earlier said, “We have received the information drowning of six students. A total of seven students had gone & one of them was safe. The body of four out of the six has been retrieved & the search & rescue operation for the other two is underway. We are in contact with the officials. It is a sad incident.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also expressed grief over the death of six children in Hazaribagh’s Lotwa dam.

“My heart is saddened by the sad news of the drowning of six children in Lotwa dam of Hazaribagh district. Relief and rescue work is being done by the district administration. May God grant peace to the souls of the children who died in the accident and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this difficult time of grief,” Soren said.

The police had taken dead bodies into their custody and sent them for post-mortem to Hazaribagh Sadar Hospital.

The incident sent shockwaves to the residents of Hazaribagh.

Local public representative and MLA Amit Yadav also reached the spot and expressed grief. (ANI)
