In the latest filing period spanning from February 1 to April 30, the 24-year-old Ashwin Ramaswami surpassed his incumbent opponent, Shawn Still, by a staggering 22 times in fundraising. Ashwin Ramaswami raised over $146,000 during this period, while his opponent collected only $6,400. Both contenders are competing for the State Senate seat in Georgia’s District 48.
Ashwin Ramaswami’s campaign announced that he has accumulated a total of over $280,000 in contributions and currently holds $208,000 in cash on hand.
Highlighting the community’s emphasis on integrity and leadership, Ashwin Ramaswami, a second-generation Indian-American with a background in software engineering, election security, and technology law and policy research, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support. He emphasized the importance of grassroots efforts in electing leaders who prioritize community interests, such as funding education, supporting small businesses, embracing future technologies, and safeguarding voting rights.
Ashwin Ramaswami underscored the significance of experience in leadership roles, criticizing his opponent’s actions during the 2020 election. He highlighted Shawn Still’s involvement in attempts to overturn the election results and emphasized the need for principled leadership.
Congresswoman Lucy McBath from Georgia’s seventh Congressional district endorsed Ashwin Ramaswami’s candidacy, citing his vision and experience in advocating for Georgians. She emphasized the importance of Ashwin Ramaswami’s bid, given the competitiveness of District 48 and the need for effective representation in the state legislature.
McBath criticized Still’s actions and indicted him for his involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, asserting that the constituents of District 48 seek a leader committed to upholding democracy.
A Georgia native, Ashwin Ramaswami has collaborated with various organizations to leverage technology for public welfare and job creation. His experience in cybersecurity and election security, including work with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), underscores his commitment to protecting democratic processes.
Ashwin Ramaswami’s parents, who immigrated to the US, worked in the IT sector, instilling in him a strong work ethic and dedication to public service.
