In a tragic incident in Mexico, two Australian brothers and their American friend were killed during a suspected carjacking near Ensenada. Parents Debra and Martin Robinson have issued an emotional statement following the death of their sons, Callum, 33, and Jake, 30, describing the loss as leaving the world “a darker place for us.”
The 3 men, including American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, disappeared on April 27 while on a surfing and camping trip. Their search ended tragically when local authorities discovered their bodies in a cliffside well, each with a gunshot wound to the head. Baja California state officials suggested the murders occurred during an attempted theft of their pickup truck’s tires.
A Mexican national has been arrested and charged with “forced disappearance,” with additional charges related to the three murders expected. Two other suspects are currently detained but have not yet been charged.
Debra Robinson, who traveled to Mexico to identify her sons, expressed her family’s grief and her intent to bring her sons home to “the ocean waves in Australia.” She fondly remembered Callum’s aspirations and contributions to lacrosse and described Jake as a compassionate doctor whose career choices were influenced by his passion for surfing.
The family extended their gratitude to friends and consular officials who supported them through this ordeal, and Mrs. Robinson urged others to “live bigger, shine brighter and love harder” in memory of the lives her sons led.
