New Delhi: Renowned actor from the South Indian film industry and DMDK chief Vijayakanth passed away on Thursday. According to reports, the actor and politician’s demise was due to COVID-19.
As per the report, Vijayakanth had been hospitalized for some time due to a coronavirus infection, where the 71-year-old actor was undergoing treatment. The actor, admitted to Chennai’s MIOT Hospital, had been on a ventilator for the past 14 days, struggling with respiratory issues caused by COVID-19.
His death has plunged his admirers and the South Indian film industry into mourning, with many stars paying tribute to the actor on social media.
Chiyaan Vikram, among others, pays tribute to Vijayakanth
Vijayakanth, who began his acting career in 1979, has left his fans and the South Indian film industry in shock with his passing. Chiyaan Vikram, star of Ponniyin Selvan, expressed his sorrow over Vijayakanth’s demise, writing, “Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of the most beloved and caring Vijayakanth. We will miss you greatly, Captain.”
In addition to Vikram, South superstar Kamal Haasan also expressed his condolences, writing, “I am deeply saddened by the news of my dear brother Vijayakanth’s passing. The founder of NPDA (National Progressive Dravida Association) and a unique actor in Tamil cinema, the Captain was loved by all. His every action reflected humanity.”
Junior NTR and Sonu Sood also remember him
RRR star Junior NTR, expressing his sorrow over Vijayakanth’s death, wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Vikram Garu. He was a powerhouse in both cinema and politics. May God grant peace to his soul. My condolences to his family and friends.”
Sonu Sood, in his tweet, wrote, “Kaalajagar, my first film, was a gift from the legendary Vijayakanth sir. He saw one of my photos, and the next moment, I was shooting with him. My career is his gift. I will miss you greatly, sir. Rest in peace, Captain.”
