External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, who is on a visit to Germany, engaged in a significant diplomatic rendezvous with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel today. This marks Dr. Jaishankar’s third diplomatic encounter with an international leader on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which commenced today.
During the meeting, EAM Dr. S Jaishankar and the Bulgarian leader discussed the Ukraine conflict and the burgeoning partnership between India and Bulgaria. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Nice to meet DPM and FM Mariya Gabriel of Bulgaria on #MSC2024 sidelines. Discussed our growing bilateral relationship and welcomed Bulgaria’s decision to join @isolaralliance. Also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict.”
In response, the Bulgarian Minister also released a statement regarding the meeting, emphasizing India’s importance as a partner of Bulgaria and expressing enthusiasm about further enhancing cooperation, especially within new programs for collaboration in science and technology.

Before the meeting with the Bulgarian leader, Dr. Jaishankar also held discussions with UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron and Peru Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez Olaechea. Their talks encompassed bilateral issues along with regional and international matters of significance.
The 60th Munich Security Conference, hosted from February 16 to February 18 at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, serves as a crucial platform for over 450 senior decision-makers and thought leaders to deliberate on pressing issues of international security policy. With participation from various sectors, including governments, international organizations, businesses, media, academia, and civil society, the conference aims to address global challenges and explore opportunities for cooperation and resolution.
