External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar is set to lead the Indian delegation at the 7th Indian Ocean Conference, a pivotal forum for nations in the Indian Ocean Region. Organized annually by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the India Foundation, this conference serves as a crucial platform for consultation and cooperation among regional stakeholders.
The 7th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference will convene in Perth, Australia on 9-10 February 2024, in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Government of Australia, the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, and the Perth-US Asia Centre. Themed “Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean,” this conference aims to deliberate upon the prospects of regional cooperation for Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
Dr. S Jaishankar will deliver the inaugural address alongside distinguished guests including Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Sri Lanka, Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, and Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore.
The 7th Indian Ocean Conference will see participation from delegations led by Ministers from over 22 countries and senior officials from 16 countries and 6 multilateral organizations. Additionally, more than 400 social and corporate leaders, policy practitioners, scholars, professionals, and media personnel from approximately 40 countries will contribute to the discussions.
Since its inception in 2016 in Singapore, the Indian Ocean Conference has played a pivotal role in fostering dialogue and collaboration among countries and maritime partners in the region. Through initiatives such as Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), the conference aims to promote regional cooperation for the collective benefit and prosperity of all stakeholders.
