External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, is set to visit Kathmandu from January 4-5, 2024, at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Minister, N.P. Saud, to co-chair the 7th meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission. The India-Nepal Joint Commission, established in 1987, serves as a crucial platform for both nations to review all aspects of their bilateral partnership.
During his visit, Dr. Jaishankar will also have the opportunity to meet with Nepal’s leadership and engage with prominent political figures. Nepal holds a significant position as a priority partner for India under its ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong relations with neighboring countries.
In an official release, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The visit underscores the long-standing tradition of high-level exchanges between India and Nepal, strengthening their close and friendly neighborly ties.”
As part of his itinerary, Dr. Jaishankar will pay courtesy calls on the Nepali President, Ramchandra Paudel, and the Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Additionally, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal will also host a dinner in honor of him and the visiting Indian delegation, fostering further collaboration and goodwill between the two nations.
