External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, held a significant meeting with Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, who arrived on his first official visit to India today (after assuming the top office).
Kicking off the meet, EAM Dr. Jaishankar, first, warmly welcomed DG Grossi and offered his congratulations on Grossi’s reappointment. He underscored India’s steadfast commitment to serving as a robust and dependable partner of the IAEA.
In a tweet, EAM Dr. Jaishankar expressed his delight at meeting his “friend” DG Grossi. He said, “Good to see my friend DG @iaeaorg @rafaelmgross today. Congratulated him on his reappointment.”
Further, during the meet, both sides held extensive discussion on the developmental significance of nuclear energy. The two leaders exchanged insights into the pivotal role that nuclear energy and technology can play, ultimately leading to the well-being of the citizens. Further, the discussions also extended to critical global issues, particularly in the domain of non-proliferation and international cooperation.
During the high-end meet, DG IAEA also sheds light on the IAEA’s initiatives in Ukraine and its commitment to addressing global non-proliferation challenges.
Looking ahead, he also expressed the IAEA’s dedication to enhancing collaboration with India, with a particular focus on maximizing the potential of initiatives like #RaysOfHope and #Atoms4Food.

It is pertinent to note that India has maintained a long and active association with the IAEA since its founding in 1957, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation in nuclear technology and non-proliferation. The country has consistently served on the IAEA’s Board of Governors, further underscoring its commitment to these vital areas of global significance.
