In a dramatic escalation of his political rhetoric, former President Donald Trump has launched a fierce attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, blaming her for what he describes as a worsening political climate in the United States. This outburst came just hours after Donald Trump narrowly escaped a second assassination attempt.
On Monday morning, Donald Trump was at his Florida golf course when Secret Service agents apprehended a suspect, Ryan Routh, who was found with an AK-47 rifle in the bushes nearby. Routh has been charged with illegal possession of firearms, but authorities confirmed that he did not discharge any weapon. The incident has heightened security concerns around Donald Trump, who previously survived another assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July.
In a series of statements, Donald Trump lashed out at Kamala Harris, whom he referred to derogatorily as “Comrade,” accusing her of propagating “Communist Left rhetoric” that he claims has intensified political hostility in the US. He criticized Kamala Harris for her performance in a recent ABC debate, labeling it as “highly partisan” and suggesting that her statements were false. Despite media reports indicating that Donald Trump himself resorted to misinformation during the debate, he continued to blame Kamala Harris for the increasing vitriol in American politics.
“The rhetoric and lies, exemplified by the false statements made by Comrade Kamala Harris during the rigged and highly partisan ABC Debate, and all of the ridiculous lawsuits specifically designed to inflict damage on Joe’s, then Kamala’s, Political Opponent, ME, have taken politics in our country to a whole new level of hatred, abuse, and distrust,” Donald Trump asserted. He warned that this climate of animosity would only escalate, stating, “Because of this Communist Left rhetoric, the bullets are flying, and it will only get worse.”
In addition to his attacks on Kamala Harris, Donald Trump reiterated his stance on immigration. He called for the immediate deportation of illegal immigrants and criticized the current administration’s policies on border control. “Allowing millions of people, from places unknown, to invade and take over our country, is an unpardonable sin. Our borders must be closed, and the terrorists, criminals, and mentally insane, immediately removed from American cities and towns, deported back to their countries of origin,” Donald Trump declared.
Reacting to the assassination attempt, Kamala Harris expressed relief that Donald Trump was unharmed and condemned violence in American politics. Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, also joined the fray, accusing Kamala Harris’s allies of inciting violence against Donald Trump. Vance pointed out that the gunman who attempted to attack Donald Trump had a Kamala Harris bumper sticker on his truck and had made multiple donations to Democrat causes. He criticized the media for what he sees as a double standard in its coverage of the incident and suggested that Kamala Harris’s campaign surrogates had previously called for Donald Trump’s elimination.
This latest exchange highlights the deepening divisions within American politics, as the 2024 presidential race heats up and both sides engage in increasingly aggressive rhetoric.
