In response to AstraZeneca’s admission in a UK court regarding rare blood clotting side effects associated with its Covid vaccine, a group of doctors convened under the Awaken India Movement (AIM) expressed apprehension about the safety of the Covishield vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India.
During a press conference, the doctors urged the government to undertake a comprehensive review of all Covid vaccines, emphasizing the necessity for scientific scrutiny and robust monitoring mechanisms to detect adverse events promptly.
Dr. Tarun Kothari, a radiologist and activist, highlighted concerns over rising post-vaccination deaths and the government’s purported neglect of scientific investigation into vaccine safety.
Dr. Sujata Mittal, a gynecologist and oncologist, emphasized the lack of awareness surrounding vaccine injuries and underscored the importance of active surveillance to identify adverse events early.
The AIM called upon the Indian government to provide compensation to victims of vaccine-related injuries and their families, urging the establishment of fast-track and vaccine courts for expedited justice.
Furthermore, they advocated for the implementation of stringent monitoring mechanisms and the dissemination of early treatment protocols to mitigate risks associated with Covid vaccines.
Meanwhile, AstraZeneca announced the global withdrawal of its Covid-19 vaccine, known as Covishield in India, following revelations of rare side effects. However, the Serum Institute of India clarified that it had ceased production and supply of Covishield doses in December 2021, having disclosed all known adverse effects in packaging inserts.
The withdrawal comes amidst global concerns over vaccine safety, prompting renewed calls for thorough evaluation and transparency in vaccine administration processes.
