In a recent clarification, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar addressed rumors regarding his upcoming visit to the United States. Contrary to media reports suggesting meetings with prominent figures such as former US President Barack Obama and US Vice President Kamala Harris, Shivakumar emphasized that his trip is strictly personal.
“I am traveling to the US with my family until September 15. The reports of my meetings with former US President Barack Obama and US Vice President Kamala Harris are incorrect. It is a personal visit,” Shivakumar stated in a press release.
Further distancing himself from political motives, Shivakumar shared a letter on social media platform X, originally sent to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, outlining the personal nature of his travel. “I wish to clear the air about my impending US trip. It is purely personal, devoid of any political agenda or invitations. I urge everyone to avoid baseless speculation,” he wrote.
The clarification comes amid Shivakumar’s call to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, urging focus on pressing local projects rather than political rhetoric. At a press event at his Sadashivanagar residence, Shivakumar appealed on the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi for support on the Mahadayi and Upper Bhadra projects. He criticized Joshi’s recent remarks and distractions related to the Valmiki Corporation scandal.
“Rather than focusing on unfounded accusations, I urge Pralhad Joshi to help secure approval for the Mahadayi project and funding for the Upper Bhadra project,” Shivakumar remarked. He also mentioned plans to discuss the potential for an all-party meeting with the Chief Minister to strategize on these regional initiatives.
