A Delta Airlines flight bound for Amsterdam from Detroit was forced to make an emergency landing at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York early Wednesday morning. The diversion came after passengers reported being served spoiled food during the late-night flight.
According to Delta officials cited by the Associated Press, the flight departed Detroit around 11 pm local time and touched down in New York at 4 am following complaints about the quality of meals served in the main cabin. Medical professionals assessed 14 passengers and 10 crew members upon landing, although fortunately, no one required hospitalization or further medical attention. The exact number of passengers affected by the spoiled food remains unclear among the 277 passengers on board.
Delta Airlines has responded swiftly, expressing regret over the incident and initiating an investigation into its cause. A spokesperson for the airline emphasized that such occurrences do not meet their usual standards of service. “We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay caused,” the spokesperson stated.
In response to the emergency landing, the Airport Authority facilitated accommodations for affected passengers, offering them the option to reschedule their flights to Amsterdam.
This incident underscores the airline’s commitment to passenger safety and service quality amid unexpected challenges during international flights.
