New Delhi [India], October 25 (ANI): Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Wednesday flagged off the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ from the Raj Niwas as a part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign.

Delhi LG said that urns will be collected from the 11 districts containing the soil of the city and will Yatra will culminate at the National War Memorial.

On the occasion, Delhi LG said, “This campaign provides us with an opportunity to pay our respects and express our gratitude to the brave men and women who gave their lives to secure our freedom and protect our cherished heritage. It allows us to honour freedom fighters, defence personnel, and police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their names will be inscribed on the “Shilaphalakam,” which will stand as a local tribute in villages and urban areas across our nation.”

LG also announced the building of ‘Amrit Vatika’ and called it a symbol of Unity.

Before the flagging of the Amrit Kalash Yatra, the “Panch Pran” pledge was also administered by the Delhi LG to all those present, including school students, present on the occasion.

The event was also attended by families and dependents of the martyrs and Chief Secretary, Special Secretary (A&C), HoD and other senior officers among others.

As a tribute to pay respect to freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country, “Meri Maati Mera Desh”, a nationwide campaign was launched on August 9, 2023. This campaign is the concluding event of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ which began on March 12, 2021, and has witnessed widespread public participation (Jan Bhagidari) with over 2 lakh programs organized across India.

Earlier today G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and Chief Coordinator Harshvardhan Shringla also presented the Commemorative Stamps and Coins to Delhi LG VK Saxena at Raj Niwas.
