Just two days after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in the national capital on Saturday. This meeting came shortly after their brief interaction at the oath-taking ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan on February 20, where Prime Minister Modi, along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), had attended the event.
On the same day, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a meeting with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) to discuss improving the infrastructure of Delhi. The primary focus of the meeting was to address the condition of the city’s roads, particularly repairing damaged ones and dealing with traffic congestion caused by roadwork. During the meeting, Gupta directed officials to prioritize the repair and maintenance of roads, ensuring that all dug-up areas and damaged roads are addressed promptly. “Improving the infrastructure of Delhi is our top priority, and we are committed to making the necessary changes to ensure smoother traffic flow and better road conditions,” Gupta stated.
In addition to the Chief Minister’s efforts, Delhi’s PWD Minister Parvesh Verma also conducted an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects, specifically from Bhairon Marg to Sarai Kale Khan along the Ring Road. Verma, accompanied by various officials, interacted with constituents and local workers to gather feedback and ensure the smooth progress of the projects. During the inspection, he instructed the officials to focus on the longevity of the roads being constructed, saying, “Make such a road that lasts for 10-15 years, even though the official timeline is 5 years. Ensure the quality of work so that it remains durable for a long period.”
While the government focused on infrastructural improvements, former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi raised concerns about the new government’s handling of women’s welfare initiatives. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Atishi expressed disappointment over the delay in implementing the Rs 2,500 scheme for women, which had been promised by Prime Minister Modi. “The first cabinet meeting of your government was held on February 20, but the Rs 2,500 scheme for women was not passed. The mothers and sisters of Delhi had trusted the promise, and now they feel cheated,” Atishi wrote. She also requested a meeting with the new Chief Minister on February 23 to discuss the issue.
The ongoing dialogue between Delhi’s newly formed government and various stakeholders reflects the administration’s focus on tackling critical issues such as infrastructure and welfare for women in the city.
