In a surprising turn of events, Robert Robb, an MEV engineer known in the crypto community as “pokerbrat,” has been apprehended by U.S. law enforcement, according to records from the Henderson Police authority.
The reasons behind Robb’s arrest, which occurred on March 20, remain shrouded in mystery as of press time. However, speculations suggest that the development could be linked to an earlier rug pull allegedly orchestrated by Robb.
The saga began unfolding in December 2023 when ZachXBT, an on-chain sleuth, brought attention to Robb’s alleged fraudulent activities. According to ZachXBT’s disclosures, Robb was accused of orchestrating a sophisticated scheme that duped over $1.2 million from eleven unsuspecting individuals.
The victims had invested in various Miner Extractable Value (MEV) bots, which Robb claimed would soon be operational. However, instead of fulfilling his promises, Robb allegedly vanished with investors’ funds, leaving them in a state of financial distress.
Excuses for the delays ranged from COVID-related setbacks to health issues, exchange glitches, and even alleged extortion. Frustrated investors sought multiple avenues to recover their funds, with some collaborating with ZachXBT in pursuit of justice.
Notably, ZachXBT’s investigations in December 2023 unveiled Robb’s checkered past. In 2002, he pleaded guilty to a $4 million scam, defrauding investors and indulging in lavish spending. Subsequently, in 2007, Robb was sentenced to three years for fraud after victimizing over ten individuals in Colorado.
Following ZachXBT’s revelations, Robb threatened legal action against him, affirming his intentions to proceed with the MEV project. However, the recent arrest, occurring three months after the alleged $1.2 million rug pull case came to light, raises eyebrows within the crypto community.
As the crypto community awaits the release of court documents to illuminate the specifics of Robb’s arrest, the evidence appears to converge on the alleged rug pull. While the exact charges remain undisclosed, Robb’s apprehension signifies a significant development in the ongoing saga of fraudulent activities in the cryptocurrency space.
