In a recent update, the Congress party unveiled its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. This latest announcement includes five nominees, bringing the total count of candidates to 86 for the forthcoming polls. The newly declared candidates are Parimal Pari for Ambala Cantt, Sachin Kundu for Panipat Rural, Satbir Dublain for Narwana (SC), Sarva Mitra Kamboj for Rania, and Rohit Nagar for Tigaon.
This announcement arrived shortly after a third list, which featured 40 candidates including party MP Randeep Surjewala’s son, Aditya Surjewala, contesting from Kaithal. Despite these substantial nominations, the party has left four seats open, sparking discussions about potential alliances, particularly as talks with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have reached an impasse.
As nomination filings closed on Thursday, the Congress pushed forward with their campaign strategy by announcing 32 additional candidates, including high-profile figures such as former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, state unit chief Udai Bhan from Hodal, and renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Julana. The initial wave of candidates included 31 individuals, later supplemented by Balbir Singh for the Israna constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes.
The strategic candidate selection reflects Congress’s intent to rejuvenate its stronghold in Haryana, re-nominating all 28 sitting MLAs and adding prominent names in an effort to counter the ruling party. The elections are scheduled for October 5, with vote counting set for October 8, where the electoral outcomes will reveal the efficacy of Congress’s expansive electoral strategy.
