Chinese Premier Li Qiang conveyed his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his re-election for a third term, expressing China’s willingness to collaborate with India to advance bilateral relations positively.
In a message, Li Qiang emphasized the importance of the steady development of China-India relations for the well-being of both peoples and regional stability, as reported by state-run Xinhua news agency. He stated, “China is willing to work with India to push forward bilateral relations in the right direction.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commenced his third term, leading the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
Relations between China and India have been strained since the Galwan incident four years ago, with the eastern Ladakh border standoff exacerbating tensions.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry, earlier in June, congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the victory of the BJP-led NDA coalition, highlighting the need for both nations to foster future-oriented bilateral relations.
China reiterated its commitment to promoting a healthy and stable relationship with India, emphasizing the significance of bilateral cooperation for regional peace and development.
However, China expressed discontent over Prime Minister Modi’s comments regarding closer ties with Taiwan, which it views as a renegade province.
India continues to press for disengagement of troops in disputed areas, asserting that normalizing relations with China hinges on resolving border issues.
As the Modi government begins its third term, focus shifts to resolving the deadlock through diplomatic channels, with expectations of holding the 22nd round of Corps Commander-level talks.
In preparation for India’s parliamentary elections, China appointed senior diplomat Xu Feihong as its new Ambassador to New Delhi, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties after a prolonged delay.
