In a United Nations Security Council meeting, China’s Ambassador Zhang Jun and Russia’s Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia voiced strong condemnation of the United States’ recent military actions in the Middle East, expressing concern that these actions were escalating tensions and undermining regional stability.
Ambassador Zhang Jun asserted that history has demonstrated that military intervention does not provide solutions to the complex issues in the Middle East. He emphasized that the recent actions by the US could further perpetuate a destructive cycle of retaliation. Ambassador Jun called on all parties involved to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, and halt illegal military operations to prevent further escalation.
Highlighting the root cause of the current situation, Ambassador Jun pointed to the failure to implement a ceasefire in Gaza as a necessary precondition for progress. He called upon all concerned nations to act in the collective interest of regional stability and avoid pursuing self-serving agendas, emphasizing that the international community is at a critical juncture where cooperation is imperative.
On the other hand, Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia of Russia strongly criticized the US for its unlawful and irresponsible attacks in the region. He characterized these actions as part of a pattern of aggressive behavior by the US, demonstrating a blatant disregard for international law. Nebenzia emphasized that the UK’s participation in these actions should not be misconstrued as the creation of an “international coalition.”
Nebenzia accused the US of deliberately attempting to involve major Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, in a regional conflict. He condemned the US for its aggression against sovereign nations, which he argued had exacerbated the already volatile situation in the region. He called upon the international community to unequivocally denounce Washington’s reckless actions and violations of Syria and Iraq’s sovereignty.
