On Friday morning, Chandigarh was put on high alert after air raid sirens were heard across the city. The warning came from the Indian Air Force (IAF) station, which issued an advisory of a possible attack, prompting both the city administration and neighboring regions to take immediate precautionary measures. Residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid balconies, while similar advisories were also issued for the bordering areas of Punjab and Haryana.
The air raid alert in Chandigarh was followed by similar warnings in Mohali, Punjab. The administration there advised residents in bordering sectors to remain indoors, away from windows and glass panes. “An Air warning has been received from the Air Force station of a possible attack. Sirens are being sounded. All are advised to remain indoors and away from balconies,” the Chandigarh administration posted on social media, confirming the threat.
The sirens were also heard in Ambala, Haryana, where the local administration echoed the warning, urging residents to stay inside their homes and avoid being near windows. The situation remains tense as the authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Punjab’s Chief Minister’s Office has also issued a statement confirming that the state government is on alert. Emergency services are being reviewed, and ministers are set to visit border districts to assess the preparedness and availability of resources.
The recent alert follows a series of escalatory moves by Pakistan along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), where Pakistan fired multiple drones and missiles into several areas, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The Indian Air Defence System successfully intercepted and downed over 50 drones midair, preventing any significant damage. As part of India’s retaliatory measures, air strikes were conducted on several strategic locations, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Sialkot.
Additionally, Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement and carried out artillery shelling along the LoC into village areas, which prompted a swift response from the Indian Army. Last night, air raid sirens sounded in multiple regions, including Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Baramulla, and various parts of Punjab and Rajasthan. There were also reports of a complete blackout in many of these areas, including Chandigarh, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Jalandhar.
This situation has heightened tensions in the region, with local governments and security forces on high alert. The authorities are continuing to monitor developments closely, and efforts are underway to ensure the safety of the public in these volatile border areas.
