A high-level committee appointed by the Centre to oversee the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) operations and enhance transparency is scheduled to meet today, according to sources from the Education Ministry.
Announced by the Ministry of Education on Saturday, the committee aims to recommend reforms in the examination process, bolster data security protocols, and assess the overall functioning of the NTA. Led by former ISRO chairman Dr K. Radhakrishnan, the seven-member panel is expected to submit its findings to the ministry within the next two months.
“The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts to ensure transparent, smooth, and fair conduct of examinations through the National Testing Agency (NTA),” the ministry stated.
The NTA, responsible for conducting exams like NEET-UG, has faced scrutiny following allegations of irregularities during recent exams, prompting widespread protests and calls for its dissolution. Concerns were exacerbated when 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720 marks.
On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a criminal case to investigate alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) 2024 examination. Special teams have been deployed to probe reported incidents across several states during the May 5, 2024 exam.
In response, the NTA assured the public of the security of its website and portals, refuting claims of compromise as “wrong and misleading.”
