The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta is set to close the registration process for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 today. Candidates interested in appearing for this prestigious entrance exam must complete their registration on the official CAT website by 5 PM. This extension of the registration date to September 20 was a reprieve for many aspirants, as the initial deadline was September 13.
The admit cards for CAT 2024 are scheduled to be released on November 5, while the examination will take place on November 24 across 170 cities in India. Candidates from the general category will need to pay an examination fee of Rs 2,500, a slight increase from the previous fee of Rs 2,400. Reserved category candidates are required to pay Rs 1,250, up from Rs 1,200.
To apply for CAT 2024, candidates must follow a specific procedure. First, they need to register to generate a unique user ID and password. After logging in with this ID, they can fill out the application form and submit it after making the required online payment. During registration, mobile numbers and email addresses provided by domestic candidates will be verified through an OTP sent to those contacts. Overseas candidates will receive the OTP only on their email. Once the application form is submitted and payment is made, applicants cannot make any changes to their details.
To be eligible for the CAT exam, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 50 percent marks or an equivalent CGPA. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates, the eligibility requirement is lowered to 45 percent marks.
In terms of seat reservations, legal requirements dictate that 15 percent of the seats are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5 percent for ST candidates, and 27 percent for Other Backward Classes candidates from the non-creamy layer (NC-OBC). Additionally, up to 10 percent of the seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates.
With the deadline fast approaching, aspiring candidates are urged to complete their registration process promptly to secure their chance at participating in this year’s CAT exam.
