Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have taken strict action against misleading content related to the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, registering 13 FIRs against 140 social media handles accused of spreading false information. Maha Kumbh Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna confirmed the development, emphasizing that the administration is fully prepared for the upcoming Maha Shivratri festival on February 26, which is expected to witness a massive influx of devotees.
DIG Vaibhav Krishna stated that law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring social media platforms to curb the spread of misleading information that could potentially create panic or disrupt the event’s management. He reiterated that the police have made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival and the safety of all visitors. According to Krishna, over one crore devotees have already taken a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam, and the authorities are fully equipped to handle the increasing crowds in the coming days.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s information department reported that nearly 8.773 million devotees had taken a holy dip as of Sunday, reflecting the sheer scale of participation in the Maha Kumbh Mela. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the massive turnout, stating that around 620 million pilgrims have visited the religious congregation in Prayagraj so far. As the Maha Kumbh reaches its final phase, authorities are ramping up crowd management and security measures to handle the anticipated surge of devotees for Maha Shivratri.
To streamline the movement of devotees, authorities have implemented extensive crowd control measures at Ayodhya Dham Railway Station. Given the heavy footfall expected in the coming days, stringent regulations are being enforced to prevent overcrowding and ensure a hassle-free experience for pilgrims. Speaking to ANI, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yashwant Singh elaborated on the enhanced security measures, noting that access to the railway platform is being strictly regulated. Pilgrims are only allowed to proceed to the platform once their train has arrived to prevent unnecessary congestion.
Singh further stated that over 350 personnel have been deployed at the railway station to maintain order, with barricading set up across key areas to guide and control the crowd. A designated holding area has also been established where passengers wait before being escorted to their respective trains. Regular announcements are being made to keep travelers informed about train schedules, and authorities are ensuring that the number of people on the platform does not exceed its capacity at any given time.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which commenced on January 13, is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, drawing millions of devotees from across the country and beyond. The concluding major ritual bath is scheduled to take place on Maha Shivratri, marking the end of this grand spiritual event. Despite the challenges posed by the sheer volume of visitors, the state administration remains vigilant in ensuring safety, security, and proper arrangements for pilgrims. With heightened security measures, crowd control mechanisms, and strict action against misinformation, authorities are working to maintain order and facilitate a smooth conclusion to the Maha Kumbh festivities in Prayagraj.
