Canada is in mourning following the passing of Brian Mulroney, the nation’s 18th Prime Minister, who passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Thursday.

Mulroney, who served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1993, played a significant role in shaping modern Canada. His leadership was marked by both triumphs and challenges, including navigating through the aftermath of the devastating Air India bombing in 1985, which claimed the lives of 329 individuals.

Announcing his father’s passing on social media, Caroline Mulroney, a provincial Cabinet Minister in Ontario, shared the news of his peaceful passing surrounded by family.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid tribute to Mulroney, acknowledging his instrumental role in building the prosperous nation that Canada is today. Trudeau highlighted Mulroney’s contributions to key initiatives such as the negotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and his advocacy against apartheid in South Africa.

Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party, also expressed sorrow at Mulroney’s passing, describing him as one of Canada’s greatest statesmen. Poilievre extended heartfelt condolences to Mulroney’s family, emphasizing the profound impact Mulroney had on shaping Canada’s political landscape.

Born in Quebec in 1939, Mulroney rose to prominence as a Conservative leader, leading his party to a decisive victory in the 1984 Federal elections. Throughout his tenure as Prime Minister, Mulroney tackled complex issues with determination and vision, leaving a lasting imprint on Canadian history.

As Canada mourns the loss of a respected leader, Brian Mulroney’s legacy will endure through his significant contributions to the nation’s growth and development. His leadership, compassion, and commitment to progress will be remembered fondly by Canadians across the country.
