Jasprit Bumrah returned to the top 5 in ICC T20I rankings without playing, while Abhishek Sharma continued his dominance as the No.1 batter for the ninth straight month.
India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has re-entered the top five of the ICC T20I bowlers’ rankings in the latest update released on Wednesday. Interestingly, Bumrah achieved this milestone without playing any recent matches. He now occupies the fifth position with 702 rating points. Meanwhile, Indian batter Abhishek Sharma has retained his position as the number one T20I batter, continuing his remarkable run at the top for the ninth consecutive month.
Bumrah’s rise in the rankings was largely due to changes in the positions of other players. South Africa and New Zealand recently played two T20 matches, but South African bowler Corbin Bosch did not feature in these games. As a result, he lost ranking points and slipped to sixth position, allowing Bumrah to move up to fifth. Bumrah’s strong performance in the T20 World Cup final, where he was named Player of the Match, continues to reflect in his high rating.
Santner gains among bowlers and all-rounders
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner also benefited significantly in the latest rankings. In the first two matches of the ongoing five-match T20 series against South Africa, Santner picked up three wickets and scored 35 runs. This performance helped him jump 11 places to reach 13th in the bowlers’ rankings. In the all-rounders’ list, he climbed two spots to seventh, achieving his career-best ranking.
There were relatively fewer changes in the T20 rankings overall due to limited matches played recently. However, players who delivered strong performances managed to improve their standings.
Abhishek Sharma continues dominance
Abhishek Sharma remains firmly at the top of the T20I batting rankings with 875 rating points. Since achieving the number one position in July 2025, he has consistently maintained his lead over other batters. His continued dominance highlights his consistency and impact in the shortest format of the game.
New Zealand’s Devon Conway also improved his position, jumping four places to reach 70th. However, he remains far behind Abhishek, who continues to lead the rankings comfortably.
Major changes in ODI rankings
While T20 rankings saw limited movement, the ODI rankings witnessed significant changes. Pakistan’s captain Salman Ali Agha made a big jump after scoring a century against Bangladesh in the final ODI of the series. He climbed nine places to reach ninth position, with a rating of 664, equalling India’s KL Rahul.
Bangladesh players also made notable gains. Taskin Ahmed moved up 12 places to 28th in the bowlers’ rankings, while Mustafizur Rahman jumped 13 spots to reach 47th position.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz shines
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered an outstanding performance in the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. He took five wickets across the series and played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s 2-1 series victory.
As a result, Miraz climbed nine places to reach seventh in the ODI bowlers’ rankings. He also improved by two spots in the all-rounders’ rankings, moving up to second place.
Conclusion
The latest ICC rankings highlight the dynamic nature of international cricket, where performances and opportunities significantly impact player positions. Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the top five without playing and Abhishek Sharma’s continued dominance as the top-ranked batter are major positives for Indian cricket. Meanwhile, strong performances from players across teams have led to notable shifts in rankings, setting the stage for more competition in upcoming matches.
