Government Allocates INR 20,000 Crores for PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan
In a significant move towards enhancing infrastructure development, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the budget for 2024, highlighting the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan as a cornerstone initiative. With an allocation of INR 20,000 crores for the financial year 2022-23, the government aims to accelerate the implementation of the PM Gati Shakti scheme, emphasizing holistic connectivity and economic growth.
Expansion of National Highways and Railways Network
Under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the government plans to formulate expressways and expand the national highways network by a staggering 25,000 kilometers in the upcoming fiscal year. This ambitious endeavor is poised to revolutionize transportation and connectivity across the country, facilitating seamless movement of goods and people.
Furthermore, the railway network is set to undergo substantial development, with a focus on safety and capacity augmentation. A 2,000-kilometer railway network will be integrated into the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system or ‘Kavach,’ ensuring enhanced safety measures. Additionally, the government plans to introduce 400 new generation Vande Bharat trains and establish 100 PM Gati Shakti multi-modal cargo terminals over the next three years, bolstering logistics and trade efficiency.
Ropeway Projects and Network Planning Initiatives
In a bid to improve connectivity and promote tourism in hilly and congested urban areas, the government will award eight ropeway projects covering a total distance of 60 kilometers in the fiscal year 2022-23. Moreover, the Logistics Division of DPIIT has conducted 62 Network Planning Group (NPG) meetings, fostering comprehensive assessment and socio-economic development of infrastructure projects. The Ministry of Railways’ expedited Final Location Survey (FLS) in FY2021-22, compared to the previous fiscal year, underscores the strides made in infrastructure development.
The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, with its robust investment and strategic initiatives, heralds a new era of infrastructure transformation, poised to propel India towards sustainable growth and development.
