In a significant move to thwart terrorist infiltration attempts along the international border (IB), the Border Security Force (BSF) has deployed two additional battalions in Jammu. This step has been taken following an increase in attempts by terrorists to infiltrate the region after the closure of infiltration routes along the Line of Control (LoC) due to heavy snowfall during the winter months. As the routes along the LoC become increasingly difficult for infiltrators to access, terrorists and Pakistan-based terror organizations often attempt to breach the international border, which has raised security concerns.
In response to this growing threat, the BSF has mobilized over 2,000 personnel in the sensitive areas of the Kathua and Samba districts in Jammu. These regions are particularly vulnerable to infiltration attempts, as Pakistan frequently attempts to push terrorists into India through these areas. To counter this, the BSF has enhanced its security grid in these locations, focusing on border stretches that are often targeted by enemy forces.
The additional battalions have been strategically deployed to strengthen the existing security measures. In Kathua, additional forces have been stationed along the border areas that are close to Punjab, particularly in Jammu’s sensitive zones. These areas have long been prone to infiltration attempts, and the increased deployment aims to establish a more robust defense.
The newly deployed BSF personnel have been positioned as the “second line of defense” behind the existing patrolling units. This enhanced deployment ensures that there is a rapid response capability in case of any attempted infiltration. The move is expected to provide greater security and prevent any terror-related activities along the border.
This development comes at a time when concerns over the safety of the region have been rising, with intelligence inputs warning of possible attempts by militants to exploit the winter weather and make their way into Jammu and Kashmir. By strengthening its presence on the border, the BSF aims to disrupt these attempts and maintain a vigilant watch over all potential infiltration routes. This proactive strategy is vital in safeguarding the region against cross-border terrorism, which remains a constant threat.
