On Friday, the Border Security Force (BSF), in collaboration with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), thwarted a significant infiltration attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district. According to a BSF spokesperson, around 1,000 Bangladeshi nationals approached the international border seeking refuge in India, presenting a substantial challenge.
Upon encountering these individuals, the BSF swiftly engaged with the BGB to facilitate their return to Bangladesh, effectively managing the situation and preventing further escalation. The prompt and coordinated response by the BSF, alongside local civil administration, was pivotal in maintaining order and addressing the situation with a balance of security and humanitarian considerations.
The official emphasized that the operation highlights the BSF’s dedication to securing India’s borders while addressing humanitarian concerns in line with international standards. The BSF, responsible for the security of India’s borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan, demonstrated exceptional professionalism in handling this emerging challenge.
The heightened security measures come in response to recent unrest and violent protests in Bangladesh, which led to the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In light of these developments, security agencies, including the BSF, Coast Guard, and coastal police, have intensified patrolling efforts along the marine borders and vulnerable points in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts to prevent illegal immigration.
The BSF’s effective management of this situation underscores its commitment to safeguarding national borders while responding with compassion and adherence to international norms.
