The makers of the upcoming war drama Border 2 have unveiled another emotionally resonant song, “Jaate Hue Lamhon,” as part of the film’s extensive promotional campaign ahead of its theatrical release on January 23, 2026. The song launch, held at a grand and symbolic event in Mumbai, brought together the film’s cast, creators, and members of the Indian Navy, underlining the film’s central theme of patriotism, sacrifice, and remembrance. With this release, Border 2 continues to build anticipation by reconnecting audiences with the musical legacy of the original Border while presenting it through a contemporary cinematic lens.

A nostalgic song reimagined with new voices and renewed emotion

“Jaate Hue Lamhon” holds a special place in Indian cinema, having originally appeared in the 1997 classic Border. Its revival in Border 2 has been crafted with sensitivity and reverence, ensuring that the song’s emotional depth remains intact while adapting it for a new generation of viewers. The recreated version has been composed by Mithoon, who draws inspiration from the legendary original composition by Anu Malik. The lyrics, penned once again by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, retain their poignant reflection on time, separation, and the emotional cost of duty.

The song features the evocative voice of Roop Kumar Rathod, whose association with the original track lends it an enduring emotional continuity. Alongside him, Vishal Mishra adds a contemporary vocal texture, blending nostalgia with freshness. Together, their renditions create a bridge between past and present, allowing long-time fans of Border to relive familiar emotions while introducing younger audiences to its soulful legacy.

The song follows the earlier release of “Ghar Kab Aaoge,” a reimagined version of the iconic “Sandese Aate Hain,” which was unveiled at the historic Longewala–Tanot sector in Jaisalmer. That launch, steeped in history and symbolism, resonated deeply across the country. With “Jaate Hue Lamhon,” the makers shift the focus inward, exploring quieter emotions such as longing, memory, and the silent strength of those left behind when soldiers march toward uncertainty.

Through its melody and lyrics, the song pays tribute not only to soldiers on the battlefield but also to their families, whose sacrifices often remain unseen. The track captures moments suspended in time, where love, duty, and separation coexist, reflecting the emotional reality of service life. This thematic depth aligns closely with the broader narrative promise of Border 2, which aims to balance large-scale war spectacle with intimate human stories.

Grand Mumbai launch blends cinema, music, and military honour

The official launch of “Jaate Hue Lamhon” took place at the United Services Club in Mumbai, a venue chosen for its strong association with the armed forces. The evening was organised in collaboration with officers of the Indian Navy, adding a layer of authenticity and respect to the proceedings. The event was marked not just by cinematic celebration, but by a shared acknowledgement of the sacrifices made by India’s defence personnel.

Veteran actor Suniel Shetty, who featured prominently in the original Border and in the first version of the song, made a surprise appearance at the event. He was joined by his son Ahan Shetty, marking a symbolic generational presence that mirrored the film’s own bridging of eras. Actress Ananya Singh was also present, adding to the ensemble of faces representing the film.

The atmosphere of the evening was elevated by a live band performance by naval officers, whose musical tribute underscored the emotional core of the song. This was followed by live renditions of “Jaate Hue Lamhon” by Roop Kumar Rathod and Vishal Mishra, drawing prolonged applause from the audience. The live performances transformed the launch into an immersive experience, where music, memory, and respect for the armed forces converged seamlessly.

The entire Border 2 team attended the event, including producer Bhushan Kumar, Nidhi Dutta, and co-producers Shiv Chanana and Binnoy Gandhi. Their presence reinforced the scale and ambition of the project, as well as the collaborative effort behind bringing the sequel to life. Industry insiders and invited guests described the evening as both celebratory and reflective, a tone that mirrors the film’s emotional arc.

Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series in association with JP Dutta’s JP Films, Border 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, and directed by Anurag Singh. The film promises to revisit the themes that made the original Border a landmark in Indian cinema—bravery, sacrifice, camaraderie, and patriotism—while expanding its scope with modern storytelling and scale.

With its release date set for January 23, 2026, Border 2 continues to build momentum through carefully curated musical releases that function as emotional anchors for the film. “Jaate Hue Lamhon” stands as a reminder that war stories are not defined solely by battles and victories, but also by the quiet moments of longing and remembrance that shape the lives of soldiers and their loved ones.
