  • 3-year-old's body exhumed after 18 days in Maharashtra.

In Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, the body of a three-year-old girl was exhumed on Friday, more than two weeks after her death in a tragic accident. The child had been killed on August 5 when a dumper truck, driven by an individual now in police custody, allegedly crushed her in Malewadi, Sawantwadi tehsil.

According to local authorities, the driver of the dumper truck, along with his assistant and the girl’s parents, initially buried the child’s body in secrecy. The parents, migrant workers from Chhattisgarh, had reportedly collaborated with the driver and his assistant to conceal the incident, avoiding any official reporting of the death.

The situation came to light only after police received a tip-off. Acting on the information, local authorities launched an investigation into the case. A court subsequently granted permission for the exhumation, which was carried out by the district police.

The driver of the dumper truck has been arrested not only for causing the accident but also for attempting to destroy evidence. His arrest follows charges of criminal negligence and obstruction of justice. The police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the full extent of the circumstances surrounding the incident and any additional individuals who may have been involved.

The case has highlighted serious issues related to accountability and transparency in handling such tragic events. The decision to bury the body in secret raises concerns about the actions taken by those involved and their motives. As the investigation progresses, authorities are working to piece together the full sequence of events and determine the appropriate legal consequences.

The exhumation of the body has provided crucial evidence for the ongoing probe. It underscores the importance of ensuring that all accidents, particularly those involving fatalities, are reported and investigated promptly to uphold justice and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The local community and the migrant workers’ welfare organizations are closely watching the developments, advocating for justice for the young victim and her family. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and proper reporting in such cases to ensure accountability and safety for all individuals involved.
