Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel on Saturday dispatched an ambulance to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence for medical tests after Arvind Kejriwal suggested he might be suffering from serious health issues. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader recently sought a seven-day extension of his interim bail from the Supreme Court to undergo medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. Arvind Kejriwal claimed in his plea that he had lost 7 kg during his time in jail and his ketone levels were alarmingly high, potentially indicating a serious illness.
However, police intervened and stopped the ambulance and Goel from reaching Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence in Civil Lines.
Arvind Kejriwal, who was granted 21-day interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, was arrested in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy scam. He is expected to surrender on June 2, following the completion of the seven-phase elections.
Vijay Goel accused Arvind Kejriwal of “creating drama” to garner public sympathy. “This ambulance was to take Arvind Kejriwal to any hospital where all his tests can be done within two hours,” Vijay Goel told reporters. The former Union minister urged the Chief Minister to stop the theatrics and accompany him for the tests if he genuinely concerned about his health.
At a press conference, AAP leader and minister Atishi emphasized that Arvind Kejriwal’s high ketone levels could signal serious kidney issues or even cancer. The Chief Minister’s interim bail plea, citing “sudden and unexplained weight loss coupled with high ketone levels,” suggests possible kidney, cardiac, or cancerous conditions.
A Delhi court is expected to hear Arvind Kejriwal’s application for interim bail later in the day. The Supreme Court registry recently declined an urgent listing of his plea, noting that since Arvind Kejriwal had the option to seek regular bail from the trial court, his plea for an extension was not maintainable.
