G Devaraje Gowda, a BJP leader who raised concerns about JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna’s purported sexual misconduct, was apprehended late Friday in connection with a sexual assault case. Police took him into custody while he was en route from Bengaluru to Chitradurga.
A 36-year-old woman filed a complaint accusing Devaraje Gowda of molesting her under the guise of assisting her in selling her property, leading to a case of sexual harassment against him.
Devaraje Gowda, who contested against Prajwal Revanna’s father in the 2023 Karnataka assembly election, stands accused of disseminating videos allegedly depicting Prajwal Revanna’s sexual abuse of multiple women. He refutes these allegations, attributing the video leak to the Congress party.
Last year, Devaraje Gowda had alerted BJP leadership regarding Prajwal Revanna’s alleged misconduct, urging the party to refrain from nominating him for the Lok Sabha elections. Despite this, the BJP, in alliance with the JD(S), fielded Prajwal as a candidate from Hassan.
The scandal surfaced shortly after the polls in the Hassan constituency, with videos circulating purportedly showing Prajwal Revanna engaging in sexual misconduct. Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Devaraje Gowda, departed for Germany upon the videos’ release and was subsequently suspended by the JD(S). A blue corner notice has been issued against him by Interpol.
Additionally, 3 FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmail, and threats, have been filed against Prajwal Revanna. Meanwhile, his father, HD Revanna, remains incarcerated on charges of kidnapping a woman with three children.
