Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, wrapped up his official visit to India on 12-13 March 2024, extending bilateral ties and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation. The visit, extended at the invitation of India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, witnessed a series of fruitful engagements aimed at bolstering the multifaceted relationship between the two nations.
During his stay, Minister Aleinik held significant meetings with key Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, and Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Additionally, he interacted with Secretary Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Dr. Vivek Joshi, and engaged with the Indian business community to explore avenues of collaboration.
The meeting between Minister Aleinik and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on 12 March 2024 centered on reviewing the state of bilateral ties and charting pathways to deepen cooperation across various sectors. Discussions spanned trade, economy, defence, education, IT, and science & technology, with a focus on fostering development partnerships.
A pivotal aspect of the visit was Minister Aleinik’s deliberations with Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, where both sides explored avenues for collaboration in health, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizers sectors. Similarly, discussions with Minister Piyush Goyal revolved around bolstering economic partnership, particularly in areas such as electric vehicles (EVs), agriculture machinery, and harvesting equipment.
The Belarusian delegation’s interaction with the Indian business community, facilitated by FICCI, provided a platform to highlight investment opportunities and foster greater awareness among stakeholders from both countries.
India and Belarus share comprehensive relations, underpinned by mechanisms for bilateral cooperation and dialogue. Through established platforms like Foreign Office Consultations, an Intergovernmental Commission (IGC), and Joint Working Groups, both nations continue to deepen their engagement on bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
