Banwarilal Purohit, who had been serving as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh since August 2021, has tendered his resignation, citing “personal reasons.” Purohit, a seasoned politician with a distinguished career, conveyed his decision in a resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu.
In his letter, Purohit wrote, “Due to my personal reasons and certain other commitments, I tender my resignation from the post of the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh. Please accept the same and oblige.” His decision marks the end of his tenure in the state.
Banwarilal Purohit, a three-time Member of Parliament, had represented both the Congress and the BJP during his political career. Hailing from Nagpur, he brought a wealth of political experience to his role as Governor. Prior to his assignment in Punjab, Purohit had served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam.
During his time as Punjab Governor, Purohit was known for his engagements with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state. He often exchanged letters with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, seeking clarifications on various issues concerning Punjab. These interactions highlighted the active role Purohit played in addressing state matters.
