Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Austria today following the conclusion of his two-day visit to Russia. Upon his arrival at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Vienna, he received a warm welcome from members of the Indian community, accompanied by a heartfelt rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ performed by Austrian artists.
This visit marks a significant milestone as it is the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Austria in 41 years, with the last visit being by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1983. PM Modi acknowledged the historic nature of his visit, describing it as a “special one” in a social media post upon landing in Vienna.
During his stay, PM Modi is scheduled to engage in high-level talks and interactions with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, emphasizing the shared values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law that underpin the growing partnership between India and Austria. Business leaders from both nations will also be addressed during the visit, highlighting opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Ahead of his arrival, PM Modi underscored the importance of deepening bilateral relations and collaborating on various geopolitical challenges with Austria. Chancellor Nehammer expressed his anticipation for the visit, emphasizing its significance in celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In response, PM Modi expressed gratitude to Chancellor Nehammer for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to strengthening ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation between India and Austria based on shared democratic values.
