In the tragic case of engineer Atul Subhash’s suicide in Bengaluru, his wife Nikita Singhania has come forward with serious allegations against Atul and his family. Nikita had filed a police complaint in 2022, accusing Atul and his family of torturing her for dowry. In her complaint, she claimed that the constant demand for dowry from her husband and in-laws led to her father’s death due to shock. However, Atul had addressed these accusations in his suicide note, which has now come to light.
In April 2022, Nikita had filed a complaint in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur, accusing Atul, his parents, and his brother of dowry harassment. She alleged that Atul not only demanded dowry but also physically abused her, and threatened her. Nikita mentioned in the complaint that they had married on April 26, 2019, and soon after, her in-laws began pressuring her for an additional 10 lakh rupees. According to her, when she confided in her parents about the abuse, they assured her everything would be fine, but the behavior of her husband and in-laws did not change. Nikita also claimed that Atul used to beat her when drunk and transferred her entire salary into his bank account.
In a surprising twist, Nikita’s uncle, Susheel Singhania, has also responded to the allegations. He was named in the FIR for allegedly abetting Atul’s suicide along with Nikita, her mother, and brother. Susheel, however, denied any involvement and clarified, “I learned about my name being in the FIR through the media. I have no connection with this matter. The divorce case has been ongoing for three years, and this incident happened suddenly. Our family is not guilty, and the court will decide.” He added that Atul’s accusations were baseless and emphasized that once Nikita returns, she will answer all the questions.
Atul, in his suicide note, responded directly to Nikita’s allegations. Regarding the accusation of physical abuse, he wrote, “If I had beaten her, why has she never presented any proof or photographs in court? I am a strong person, and if I had beaten her, there would have been visible signs like broken bones or marks.” On the 10 lakh dowry demand, Atul dismissed it as absurd, pointing out that he had a stable income, which increased from 40 lakh to 80 lakh annually, making such a demand unreasonable. He further commented on Nikita’s father’s death, stating that it was due to his pre-existing health conditions, not the dowry dispute, and accused Nikita of trying to spin the situation into a Bollywood-style story.
The case has drawn attention to serious issues of domestic abuse and dowry harassment, and investigations are ongoing to determine the truth behind the tragic incident.
