Golaghat (Assam) [India], July 2 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited the flood affected Bankuwal at Bokakhat sub-division in Golaghat district and inspected the breach point of the area.

CM Sarma took a boat journey to reach out to the area at Bankuwal where the current flood breached a point of an embankment.

As a result of the breach, around 72 villages were affected.

CM Sarma interacted with the flood-affected people taking shelter on the embankment and took note of the damage caused due to floods.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma also visited the temporary relief camp set up at Kamargaon Higher Secondary School and took stock of the relief materials including facilities being provided to the people who are taking shelter in camps.

He also enquired about the medical facilities, safe drinking water and baby food being given to the inmates in the camp.

While talking to the flood-affected people, he assured them of all possible help from the government.

The Chief Minister also said that once the flood water recedes, the breach point will be repaired using the latest technology and action will be taken to facilitate the flood victims’ early return to their respective homes.

He also said that ‘Team Assam’ has been unrelenting in its endeavour to ensure relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people.

The Assam Chief Minister also asked the District Commissioner to ensure that the flood victims get adequate help from the administration.

He asked the DC to ensure the availability of adequate fodder for domestic animals sheltered in the relief camps.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, MLAs Biswajit Phukan, and senior officers of district administration and line departments were present during Chief Minister’s visit to the flood affected areas.

Chief Minister during his visit to Bokakhat also spent time in the Kaziranga National Park and took note of the animals affected by the surging flood water in the park. Upon sighting a rhino along with its cub apparently caught in the flood water, CM Sarma asked the park authority to rescue animals and put them in safer areas. (ANI)
