India’s campaign at the Asian Para Games 2022 has started with a bang as athletes delivered stellar performances, clinching medals across various events. On the day one of the event only, India secured number fourth position on the points table with 7 medals already in its kitty.
Historic Silver in Canoeing:
India started off the day with securing silver in the Women’s VL2 category of para canoeing
Athlete Prachi Yadav etched her name in history by securing a silver medal. Her remarkable performance, clocking a time of 1 minute and 3.147 seconds, brought home a well-deserved silver.
Double Triumph in Men’s High Jump:
Next, in the Men’s High Jump T63 event, India witnessed an exceptional double triumph.
TOP Scheme Athlete Shailesh Kumar soared to a golden victory, setting a Games Record with an astounding jump of 1.82 meters. Not to be outdone, Mariyappan Thangavelu clinched the silver medal with his Season’s Best jump of 1.80 meters, highlighting India’s prowess in the field.
Perfect Podium Finish in Men’s Club Throw F-51:
The Indian contingent displayed a spectacular performance in the Men’s Club Throw F-51 event, achieving a perfect podium finish. India’s dominance in this event resulted in three glorious medals:
- 🥇 Pranav Soorma secured a golden moment with a Games Record throw of 30.01 meters.
- 🥈 Dharmabir showcased his silver lining with the best throw of 28.76 meters.
- 🥉 Amit Paralympian added to India’s glory with a bronze medal, achieving an impressive throw of 26.93 meters.
Shotput for India:
All hails to Monu Ghangas for securing incredible Bronze in Men’s Shotput F11 event at the Asian Para Games with season’s best throw of 12.33 m.
Hopes High for Historic Performance:
It is pertinent to note that, India’s participation in the Asian Para Games 2022 is its largest ever, comprising 303 athletes, including 191 males and 112 females. The nation’s previous best showing at the Games included a remarkable tally of 72 medals, which included 15 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 33 bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta. However, this time, India aims to surpass its previous achievements and set new records at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
