AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has sharply criticized Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s recent threatening remarks regarding the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. The controversy follows India’s diplomatic actions in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which left several innocent people dead. Asaduddin Owaisi’s response highlights the political tension between India and Pakistan, with Asaduddin Owaisi dismissing Bhutto’s remarks as immature and questioning his understanding of the personal tragedies in his family’s past.
Bilawal Bhutto’s Threatening Statement
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, addressing a public rally in Sukkur, Sindh, on Friday, threatened India with violence if it failed to adhere to the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. His statement, “The Indus is ours and will remain ours — either our water will flow through it, or their blood,” came after India downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan and imposed a series of measures following the terror attack on April 22. These measures included the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, and the closing of the Attari land-transit post. Bhutto also accused India of falsely blaming Pakistan for the attack.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s Response to Bilawal Bhutto’s Remarks
In response to Bilawal Bhutto’s comments, Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his disdain, calling them “childish” and questioning Bhutto’s awareness of his family’s history. Asaduddin Owaisi remarked, “Arre chhodo… bachpane ki baatein nahi karna,” implying that such comments were immature. He further criticized Bhutto, questioning whether he understood the pain of his own family, notably the assassination of his mother, Benazir Bhutto, and the tragic death of his grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who was executed after a controversial trial in 1979. Owaisi suggested that such remarks were a display of ignorance and insensitivity to personal losses.
Asaduddin Owaisi has consistently condemned Pakistan’s role in the recent terror attack, which targeted innocent civilians in a religiously motivated manner. Survivors of the attack claimed that terrorists asked victims about their religion before killing them, and Owaisi condemned this act, asserting that such behavior is not aligned with the values of Islam.
India’s Diplomatic Measures
India’s diplomatic response to the attack has been swift and severe. Along with the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, India revoked all visas for Pakistani nationals and closed the Attari border. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged the “harshest response” to those behind the attack, reinforcing India’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and national interests.
