A soldier was killed and four others, including an Army Major, were injured in an encounter with Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. The clash, which resulted in the death of a Pakistani terrorist, occurred in the Kamkari area of Kupwara and was the second such confrontation in the region within three days.
The encounter began after Indian forces received intelligence about potential terrorist movements in the area. The deceased soldier and the injured personnel were evacuated from the site as the gunfight continued. The Border Action Teams, which consist of Pakistan Army commandos and terrorists, have been involved in infiltration attempts along the LoC in the past.
Defence Ministry sources revealed that the BAT team involved in this attack likely included regular Pakistani Army troops and Special Services Group (SSG) commandos working in coordination with terrorist organizations. Earlier on July 24, security forces had neutralized an unidentified terrorist in a separate overnight gunfight in Kupwara’s Lolab area, during which another soldier was also killed.
Reports indicate that between 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are currently hiding in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s hilly districts. These terrorists are highly trained and equipped with advanced weaponry, including American-made M4 Carbine Rifles with night vision devices. In response, security forces have launched extensive counter-terror operations to locate and neutralize these infiltrators.
