On March 16, 2024, Ethereum’s layer 2 scaling solution, Arbitrum, is set to unlock over $2 billion worth of ARB tokens, according to Token Unlocks data, in a move that could have significant implications for the project’s ecosystem.
This impending unlock will distribute more than 1.1 billion ARB tokens, representing approximately 87% of the circulating supply, to the project’s team, advisors, and investors. Since its inception, approximately 1.5 billion tokens, comprising nearly 16% of the total supply, have been released.
The event is notable as one of the most significant token unlocks scheduled for March, alongside other projects like dYdX, Aptos, and Immutable, which are also undergoing major token releases.
dYdX released approximately $111 million worth of tokens, while Aptos is expected to release around $290 million in tokens on March 13, and Immutable will unlock approximately $109 million in tokens on March 22.
The impending unlock is expected to double the current circulating supply of assets. Notably, Robinhood recently integrated Arbitrum into its platform to facilitate faster and more cost-effective transactions, leveraging its Layer 2 technology.
According to CoinGecko’s data, ARB is currently trading at approximately $1.9, with a nearly 3% decrease over the past 24 hours. Despite the decrease, the token boasts a market capitalization of around $2.5 billion.
