The initiative brought together young participants from across Delhi to strengthen leadership skills, democratic understanding, and civic engagement among youth.

30 March 2026, New Delhi.
The State-Level ‘Viksit Bharat’ Youth Parliament 2026 was organized at the Delhi Legislative Assembly under the joint aegis of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Delhi. The event witnessed active participation from young individuals selected through district-level youth parliaments conducted across various parts of the national capital.

The programme was graced by Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta as the Chief Guest. Members of the Legislative Assembly, including Dr. Anil Goel, Smt. Poonam Bhardwaj, Shri Tilak Raj Gupta, and Shri Sanjay Goyal, attended as judges for the competition. Senior officials from MY Bharat Delhi, including State Director Smt. Poonam Sharma and Assistant Director Shri Ramesh Soni, were also present during the event.

Participation and Selection Process

A total of 50 participants took part in the state-level Youth Parliament. These participants had been shortlisted from district-level competitions held earlier across Delhi, ensuring representation from diverse backgrounds and regions. The competition provided a platform for youth to engage in simulated parliamentary proceedings, debate issues, and present their perspectives on governance and public policy.

The winners of the state-level event will be announced separately and will go on to represent Delhi at the National Level Youth Parliament, scheduled to be held in the Parliament of India. This progression reflects the structured approach of the programme in nurturing leadership and providing exposure to democratic institutions at higher levels.

Focus on Leadership and Democratic Values

Addressing the gathering, Vijender Gupta highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering leadership skills and strengthening democratic values among youth. He stated that the ‘Viksit Bharat’ Youth Parliament is designed to encourage civic participation and provide young individuals with a deeper understanding of parliamentary processes and governance.

He further noted that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of bringing a large number of young leaders into Indian politics, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to nation-building. The programme, supported by institutions such as the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and MY Bharat, serves as a structured platform for youth engagement in public affairs.

Youth as Drivers of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’

In his address as the Chief Guest, Vijender Gupta emphasised that the journey towards a developed India by 2047 will be shaped by the ideas, innovation, and democratic commitment of the youth. He observed that India has evolved beyond being a growing economy and is now emerging as a global solution provider on the international stage.

The Speaker described the Youth Parliament as a “living exercise in democracy,” where participants not only learn the mechanics of policymaking but also develop the ability to build consensus despite differing viewpoints. He encouraged participants to move beyond merely identifying problems and instead focus on presenting actionable solutions backed by facts and reasoned arguments.

Encouraging Responsible Citizenship

Vijender Gupta urged participants to become responsible and alert citizens who actively contribute to society. He highlighted that the strength of democracy lies in informed debate and constructive dialogue, rather than the intensity or volume of expression.

He also underlined the transformative role of leadership and politics in bringing positive change to society, particularly for the most vulnerable sections. According to him, meaningful political participation can significantly improve governance outcomes and ensure inclusive development.

Role of Youth Parliament in Skill Development

The Youth Parliament initiative plays a crucial role in developing essential skills among participants, including critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, and policy analysis. By simulating real parliamentary proceedings, the programme helps students gain practical exposure to legislative functioning and decision-making processes.

Such initiatives are seen as important steps in preparing the next generation of leaders who can contribute effectively to India’s democratic framework. They also help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical governance experience.

Conclusion

The State-Level ‘Viksit Bharat’ Youth Parliament 2026 at the Delhi Legislative Assembly marks an important step in engaging youth with democratic institutions and processes. By providing a platform for dialogue, debate, and leadership development, the initiative aims to empower young individuals to play an active role in shaping the future of the nation.

As highlighted by Vijender Gupta, the focus remains on nurturing informed, responsible, and solution-oriented citizens who can contribute to the vision of a developed India by 2047. The event concluded with encouragement to participants to continue striving for excellence and to view the experience as a stepping stone toward greater opportunities in public life.
